Don’t Decide for Me, Please

Recently, I've been met with a lot of surprising lash back on my decision to commit to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (VT). This is something that surprised me, really. Why should I be criticized about where I want to go to college, let alone the 2nd best college in the state. While it doesn't happen often, it's something I don't appreciate.

For example, some of the most recent questions I've gotten were: "Why didn't you go to another school?," and "Why not wait for the University of Virginia (UVA)? I'm really shocked." It just feels really disrespectful and I don't want people to judge me for my decision. Whether good intentions or not, it is something that I just want to get out there.

Being deferred from UVA was already hard enough on me as it is, but to add onto that by doubting my decision? It doesn't help. Maybe these are people I should cut off...◆
